Oakley Foundation Grants $250,000 To Union Hospital's Capital Campaign
05/14/2009

Union Hospital Foundation is one step closer to obtaining its goal of $8,000,000 for their Distinctive Past...Exceptional Future Capital Campaign thanks to an extremely generous gift from the Hollie & Anna Oakley Foundation. At a media conference this morning in Union Hospital's Professional Office Building the following announcement was made by Alice Anne Perry, President of the Oakley Foundation, "I am so pleased to be here this morning and to present, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hollie and Anna Oakley Foundation, this grant to Union Hospital in the amount of $250,000 for the Union Hospital Distinctive Past...Exceptional Future Capital Campaign". Mrs. Perry went on to say "We are so fortunate to have Union Hospital here in our community with all the services they provide. It's our hospital."

David Doerr, President & CEO of Union Hospital and President of Union Hospital Foundation responded to the gift from Oakley Foundation by stating, "I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Oakley Board for their support. It's a huge step toward goal, but more importantly, it allows Union Hospital to do great things for our community. Oakley Foundation's support of the community's significant projects around the Wabash Valley is evident. We are grateful and proud of that same support. I have gone on record with our vision and goal of becoming a top 100 hospital, support of the Oakley Foundation is a big step toward that reality."

Jerry Einstandig, the Chair of the Foundation's Distinctive Past...Exceptional Future Capital Campaign, commented, "The Hollie and Anna Oakley Foundation was established in 1954 for the purpose of giving primarily for education and human service with fields of interest that include arts, community development , higher education, human services, youth development, and health organizations. We are grateful that they included health organizations. This gift from the Oakley Foundation couldn't have come at a more appropriate time. With the capital campaign just shy of the $ 8 million goal this check brings us to 96% of goal and gives us the impetus we needed to take the campaign over the top. The generosity of the Oakley Foundation and the Perry Family will enable Union Hospital Health Group to provide the best health care possible to the residents of the Wabash Valley."

With the $250,000 grant from Oakley Foundation, Union Hospital Foundation has attained 96.5% of its $8,000,000 goal and is less than $278,000 short of goal.

The mission of the Union Hospital Foundation is to support advances in medical care that benefit the patients served by Union Hospital and initiatives that promote the health and wellness for those residents who live in the Wabash Valley. The Foundation fulfills this mission by raising charitable gifts and grants, providing effective stewardship for gifts received and by awarding grants to Union Hospital and to select other organizations through which improvements in medical care and community health are realized. The Union Hospital Foundation receives charitable support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations who share the Foundation's vision for a healthy, vital community.
