Eagle Riders Gift Over $2,500 to Clara Fairbanks Center for Women

On Saturday, September 12th the Eagle Riders of Terre Haute held a 170 mile bike ride to help support the early detection of breast cancer in the Wabash Valley. As a result of their ride, a dinner and auction that followed, the Eagle Riders presented a check to Union Hospital Foundation in the amount of $2,565 to be designated to the Clara Fairbanks Center Mammogram Assistance Fund.

“We decided to adopt local charities at the start of the Eagle Riders in 2007 and we feel privileged as a group of ordinary people to be able to help our many friends and neighbors in this way”, said Ron Alvis, one of the ride organizers.

Alvis noted that the mission of Eagle Riders is to have fun in a family oriented organization dedicated to the enjoyment of motorcycles and safe riding, while promoting the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Eagle Riders is a subsidiary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and is different only due to the group’s interest in motorcycles. The local group is the second Eagle Riders Group in the state of Indiana. In order to live out their motto of “People Helping People” they look for fun and creative ways to raise money for both charities and the Aerie.

Alvis added that it is the group’s intention to repeat the ride next year because of the success of this year’s event.

“We are excited that the Eagle Riders have committed to helping the Clara Fairbanks Center again in 2010 with hopes of increasing the amount and helping the women of the Wabash Valley”, stated Jim Bertoli, Executive Director of Union Hospital Foundation.

The Clara Fairbanks Center for Women is the number one mammography provider in the Wabash Valley, performing approximately 12,000 mammograms each year. The Mammogram Assistance Fund was established through Union Hospital Foundation to help provide these important screenings for individuals who may not otherwise have the ability to afford them.

The mission of the Union Hospital Foundation is to support advances in medical care that benefit the patients served by Union Hospital and initiatives that promote the health and wellness for those residents who live in the Wabash Valley.  The Foundation fulfills this mission by raising charitable gifts and grants, providing effective stewardship for gifts received and by awarding grants to Union Hospital and to select other organizations through which improvements in medical care and community health are realized. The Union Hospital Foundation receives charitable support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations who share the Foundation’s vision for a healthy, vital community.
