Union Hospital Foundation Moves into New Union Hospital East Facility

1/14/2010

The Union Hospital Foundation office will be moving from its current location at 1430 North 6th Street into the lower level of the new Union Hospital East facility that sits at 1606 North 7th Street. The Foundation officially moved on January 7th and was the first of numerous departments at Union Hospital to make the transition into the state-of-the-art, 500,000 square foot building. Union Hospital East will begin admitting patients on January 12th.

Current Union Hospital Foundation Board Chair, Cindy Martin, who has led the push into Union East building, said the new office is a “mission accomplished”.  “Our presence in the hospital’s main structure has been a goal that space has never allowed.  Now we are front and center in the midst of the organization we champion and it is truly a proud moment for all involved.” said Martin.

Located in the northeast corner of the lower level, near the gift shop and the chapel, the Foundation office will be more conveniently positioned and easily identifiable to visiting members of the community. The new Foundation office will also be more than double the size of the current building with over 3,000 square feet of space. The much needed additional space will better accommodate the Foundation’s staff, office supplies and equipment, and donor files.

“The new office provides the Foundation with the best possible venue to conduct our efforts and we owe tremendous thanks to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and to Union Hospital.” said current Executive Director, Jim Bertoli.

Specifically, the atrium-accessible office will feature a reception/administrative assistant area, copy room, file room, kitchenette, administrative offices, and storage rooms. In addition, a 16 seat conference room will also be located in the office. The conference room is named in honor of former Union Hospital Foundation Board Chair, John Chironna, Jr., who is the Foundation’s longest serving Chair. The Chironna Conference Room will serve as a convenient meeting place for members of the Union Hospital Foundation Board committees and other Foundation-related activities.

“I was pleased and surprised when I was informed that the conference room in the new Foundation office was being named in honor of me.” said Chironna. “I couldn’t be more pleased that the Foundation will have a prominent location on the hospital’s campus.”

Union Hospital Foundation is wrapping up its “Distinctive Past…Exceptional Future” Capital Campaign which is the largest fundraising campaign in the Foundation’s 25 year history. The goal of the campaign was to raise $8 million to assist the hospital with the construction of the new Union East and renovations to Union West.  The Foundation exceeded that goal in just over a year with gifts from hospital employees, physicians, nursing alumni, Service League members, retirees, board members, and the community. The campaign total currently stands at more than $8.8 million.

The mission of the Union Hospital Foundation is to support advances in medical care that benefit the patients served by Union Hospital and initiatives that promote the health and wellness for those residents who live in the Wabash Valley.  The Foundation fulfills this mission by raising charitable gifts and grants, providing effective stewardship for gifts received and by awarding grants to Union Hospital and to select other organizations through which improvements in medical care and community health are realized. The Union Hospital Foundation receives charitable support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations who share the Foundation’s vision for a healthy, vital community.
